Wow! What a week! Firstly we reel from one of our worst performances in many lacklustre performances and alas, right here in Brissie. Fortunately, supporters still managed to  brave it and come along to our after-match function and we truly appreciate your support. Chris Connolly, Cam Schwab and Don McLardy turned up and said a few words but the mood was a tad sombre. Dean and the boys turned up and things livened up a tad and we appreciate the visit. One of our members, Chris, did a resounding version of "A Grand Old Flag" that had everyone singing along so I am sure they knew we are behind them. This week, they came out and kicked some Eagle butt and we had a great win.

We did it in many ways for our beloved Pres, Jimmy Stynes who, this week, came out with the news he has cancer. What a horrible thing to face and to do it in public must be so very hard and yet he faced it with grace and we all wish him the very best . For those who have loved ones with the disease or have indeed succumbed to it, it is heart wrenching for the families and close friends and of course those suffering this dreadful disease. We wish you all the very very best.

For those wishing to leave Jim a get well message or indeed some inspiration, please go here and give him your thoughts and prayers. If, by chance, you get an error message, just click yes and you should get there. If not, please go to the club site and leave your message for the great man there.

We all love him for his passion and drive and for all he has done for the club and now we must get behind him and the club and keep his dreams alive. Debt demolition is coming back in August and I plead with one and all to do what they can to help our club be back in the black and let our young and talented team do their bit on the field to bring the Dees back to a force to be reckoned with.

Jack Watts will be a champion for our club, make no mistake about that and the hype surrounding him at the moment is ridiculous. He is just 18 years old with two games under his belt and still studying at school which is, and should be, a priority for him. He had limited pre-season and cannot attend all our training sessions. He still managed two goals from two shots last week v the Bombers and was faced up against seasoned pro - Dustin Fletcher. He is still learning and from comparisons with other #1 picks playing similar positions ( ie Riewoldt)  he has had a better debut.

Liam Jurrah also will take time but is exciting. We must be patient. It wont happen overnight but it WILL happen.

Next week is a special week for the 2009 draft hopefuls as the U18 championships are coming to a head with a big feature day at Ethiad Stadium. All clubs will be there to check out the form and talents of the batch of boys hoping to gain a spot on the list of an AFL club for 2010.

At this point, if it was tomorrow, we have the #1 and currently #3 picks as WCE still only have 3 wins and would take the #2 pick.  Since talk of the draft began I solely had my focus on two players - Tom Scully and John Butcher. Scully a talented midfielder and Butcher a KP forward. I still believe these are the two we should go for but during the current U18 championships another player has come to the attention of supporters - Jack Trengrove from SA. He has been wowing them over there with his ball winning and match-defining play and now talk has been on Demonology and Demonland that perhaps we should go for two cracking midfielders. Of course, at this point last year Daniel Rich was the name, along with Naitanui, as #1 until Jack Watts sprung up and took out the Larke Medal as the best player of the championships. Jack then became the player touted as #1 and eventually, as we all know, was called out at #1 for the Melbourne Football Club.

By now, recruiters will have an idea what they want and will be watching itently but things can change in an instant with an unfortunate injury, accident or just a form slump and those recruiters then have to shift focus. At the dinner on the Gold Coast recently it was brought up in question time and the feeling I got was for the Scully/Butcher combination but who knows??? Until 9.00am on draft day we will all be kept guessing!

Footnote: Scully has done nothing to destroy his deserved # 1 ranking at this point but it is still early days. Things are warming to Trengrove as the #2 option but Butcher could be saving it all up for draft camp so it's anyone's guess.

So it is another five months before the draft and many things can change but as more develops on the future stars of 2010 and beyond - you shall read it right here.
