Results Round 16

Melbourne v Sydney
2.10pm pm Sunday  25th July 2010

MCG

What a difference a week makes!

Whether our second half effort was a catalyst for a remarkable game v the Swans or whether a new light has turned on in every Melbourne player's head, it seemed like a different group yet they were wearing our wonderful jumpers, playing on our ground and they looked like our team.

So who were they?  It was the Demons but this week they started exceptionally well and perhaps the confidence they got from the start just gave them these super powers because they just were everywhere. They ran, they tackled, they ran, they pressured, they ran and they goaled. Chances were taken and by half time it was all but over.

Melbourne supporters know by now not to get ahead of themselves and I doubt there would be any that would be counting this as a win at half time. Once the third quarter began and it was still raining goals, well we could sit back and relax as Sydney hadn't even reached our quarter time score and we had 20 goals up. Remarkable yet it was happening.

If it wasn't for Goodes, Sydney would have been even more horribly embarrassed. He got four goals and beat his opponent, Cale Morton however Cale was on him all day and did a fine job. He just had a better opponent and he has learned some valuable lessons on how to play on this type of player for the future. He didn't give up and got 23 possessions and a goal so shouldn't be disappointed in his efforts.

We had many winners but the stand outs were Sylvia, Frawley and Brad Green. Cam Bruce kept O'Keefe to just 10 touches and both he and Kirk were down on the day.

The boys are here this weekend and I hope to see most of you at the Pineapple after the game. All being well I want to see the roof lift off the Pineapple as we sing our song with gusto. I am sure we can win if we apply ourselves as we did on Sunday - I want to come home with no voice from cheering and singing all night long.
