What's going on in Queensland?

Queensland Demons -Supporter Group Activity 2011

Gabba    Gold Coast v Melbourne - 2.00 Sunday April 17, 2011

GABBA  - This is always a well attended function and we are hoping things continue to be successful. We will be holding an official Melbourne Football Club after-match function for all supporters at the Pineapple Hotel and we invite everyone along to join in and hopefully celebrate a win over the new team, Gold Coast. We have had a mixed bag in pre-season with some good wins over Adelaide and Port but disappointing against Essendon and possibly even more so against Brisbane  who had been winless till today.

Join Chris Connolly, Dean Bailey and our team of Demons and join us in a rousing rendition of "Grand Old Flag" to rock the Pineapple to its foundations. There will be raffles available and a special draw for those that have joined in the sponsorship of James Frawley for a second year. Drinks at bar prices. We will be meeting in the upstairs rooms before the game as well however players/officials will not be in attendance beforehand.

Cost will be $ 5 per person with kids under 8 free for the after-match function.

For those new to Queensland or indeed just to our function, I have put a map here of how to get to the Pineapple from the Gabba. Essentially, just follow the crowd of red and blue fans and they will lead you to the hotel, but for those that just like to know where they are going, here is a map.

The club receives an allocation of tickets for the game however the seats are fairly ordinary. I suggest, if you can afford it, to buy a reserved seat from Ticketmaster and if you are an RACQ member you can get 10% off the cost by simply quoting your membership number and the Discount code "RACQ10" when booking. I believe you need to call rather than book online to get this and then you get the seats you want. We generally sit in Category 2 seating on the wing and it would be fabulous to get as many Qld Demons there as we can. It is usually around Section 26-28 from memory but see the map of the Gabba on the Ticketmaster site to double check that before ordering the seats. Seats generally don't come on sale until about the week before the game so put that on your calendar of things to do from the 10th April.  I feel a win over the Suns is almost essential so join the  Qld Demons  who will be yelling like mad to get the boys over the line and make our day a memorable one.

Want to watch a game with fellow supporters? Want to be a game day host/hostess?

In the past few weeks I have been asked quite often whether we get together for drinks and to watch games on TV. I have, unfortunately, had to say that although I would like to be able to put them in touch with fellow supporters in their area, that most people up here prefer to watch alone or with family but turn out at scheduled venues has been with very limited success. I want this to change so that visitors from interstate will have people to meet to watch games with and indeed just anyone who wants to meet other supporters to watch our team battle it out in 2010 should be able to choose a venue and find supporters there to watch the game with.

I have had a few enquiries regarding places to watch the Demons on the Sunshine Coast. Does anyone have any favorite venues they can share with me and I can pass on to other Sunshine Coasters? Anyone willing to allow me to pass their phone number on to other supporters to arrange a viewing at a local club or pub?

So, if you want to register to be a "host" at a venue near you ( all it requires is for the venue to have an area to watch it in and the ability to show PayTV) and your willingness to field calls on where to meet each week, please fill out the contact me form and I will put fellow Melbourne supporters in your area in touch with you.

Doesn't matter where in Queensland you are - if you know of a venue that suits and would like to be able to celebrate the highs and commiserate the lows with other Demon supporters, then we want to hear from you.
